When Phi Alpha Kappa began in 1929, the house was comprised of graduate students who were all alumni of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Today, Phi Alpha Kappa exists as one of the oldest fraternities on campus, a testament to the enduring blessing of God. Membership currently ranges from freshmen to third year graduate students.

"Knowing that many privileges are to be realized from a brotherhood of individuals of common interests, and appreciating that closer communion of kindred hearts is provocative to honorable demeanor, and seeking the development of the higher qualities of the mind and nobler impulses of the heart, the alumni of Calvin College on the Michigan campus have organized a fraternity which the Inter-Fraternity Council recognizes as Phi Alpha Kappa. Successful far beyond expectations in its first year, the fraternity bids fair to continue its success in the next." - Calvin Prism, 1930.
